Pisces in August 2008

pisces, the fishes

19 february -- 20 march

pisces in august

Twists, turns, complete surprises, unpredictable acts committed by normally predictable people—in other words, are you ready for another month of Uranian action?

In August, pretty much everything but the kitchen sink will zip through Virgo, your opposing sign. Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Sun, and the asteroid Eros all take turns lining up opposite you in the sky. This is not to mention Saturn, who’s been in Virgo and will stay there until fall of 2009.

Add to this the fact that Uranus, Planet of the Totally Unexpected, is hovering at about 22 degrees of Pisces. All those planets in Virgo will oppose Uranus, too, thus paving the way for the big Saturn/Uranus face-off that officially begins in September and lasts practically all the way through 2009.

And add to this a pair of August eclipses, one focal end of which lies in your solar twelfth house (read more about them here.) To Pisces, the sign of Aquarius represents mysteries, the subconscious, and the unrecognized Shadow-self.

Most Fish should slide by the eclipses without seeing much overt action. Eclipses often signal endings and new beginnings, but since this one occurs a.) in your cadent houses and is a bit less powerful, and b.) in conjunction with Neptune and Chiron in your twelfth, you may not even notice that a new cycle has begun, not until later in fall.

However, where you and other people are concerned, August will be jumping. Watch your interpersonal relationships closely; be aware that you may find yourself inadvertently playing the role of The Rebel or the Lone-Wolf Martyr or some equally tired cliche. If these archetypes are part of who you are, fine (they’re in everyone, really) but this particular opposition will tend to bring out the reactionary in all of us.

One side will be playing the role of Immovable-Authority-Who-Knows-What’s-Good-For-You. This side will come across as the cold, critical squelchers of dreams and individuality, the ones who couldn’t see the need for change if it rolled over and bit them.

The other side of this drama will be playing the Do-It My-Way-And-Damn-Your-Authority role. This side will come across as the irresponsible, impractical defenders of random dreams, the ones who never actually reach any of their pie-in-the-sky goals because they have no sense of compromise, nor of steady, practical effort.

Guess what? You’re more complex than either of these two cardboard stock characters suggests. No matter which role you find yourself playing (and it may alternate wildly over the next year) try to keep in mind that you are more than either of these. You're intelligent and empathetic enough to see the merit in both sides of this stand-off-- you can mediate between them, if you really try.

Pisces and Virgo are actually set to benefit greatly from this opposition...eventually. First we have to get through the rough patches; it helps if we remember that “the other guy” is going through something just as trumped up and weird as we are, no matter how opposed his views are to ours.

Keep you eyes, ears, and mind open. It’ll be an interesting month, no doubt.

Good Things: All this Virgo action will also trigger Jupiter in your house of social organizations, friends, and aspirations. Opportunities may plop into your lap unexpectedly, especially if they involve old friends, past partners, or groups you’ve been part of in the past.

Sex Life: Seriously, Pisces...how can you expect to squeeze romance into a schedule like yours? You may not have a choice. Sex, especially sex connected to love, will become increasingly important over the next couple of months. It may also require some debate (take a look at Virgo’s scope for a peek at the other side.)
