November Monthly Horoscopes Are Here!

november 2008 'scopes
are here
(sorta)

overview

It’s going to be another interesting month, which is most likely a good thing (“interesting = good and boring = bad” seems to be the most basic equation of human aesthetic judgment.) We do begin November on firmer footing—Mercury’s moving forward nicely now, Chiron is direct again, and the planetary pile-up of the late summer months is finally breaking up. It’s time for us to unkink and get moving, too, and the outer planets will help.

Neptune, protean Master of Dreams & Illusion, is first. Neptune resumes direct motion on November 2, still in conjunction with Chiron; the inner sense of impending metamorphosis/healing we’ve had will ease its way into something tangible. Old dreams take on form, but be aware: nothing ever moves from Ideal Vision to Mundane Reality without changing its shape somewhat, losing in some aspects and gaining in others. Try to keep that in mind, when nothing turns out exactly as you’ve pictured it.

Next comes the first hit of the Saturn/Uranus opposition on U.S. Election Day, November 4 (read more about the aspect here.) This is a rather awkward first pass—Uranus will still be retrograde, so the issues involved won’t quite lead us into the future, not yet. Look to next year, September 2009, for the most explosive pass of this particular opposition. This one’s still about old business, though it could certainly get hairy. Stay alert.

However, Uranus will go direct later in the month, on November 27, after four months of lying low in retrograde motion. We’ll certainly see a few surprises that have thus far been lost in the mail. O Planet By Whose Very Name We Are Endlessly Amused, what have you been storing up for us?

And lastly, Pluto makes his final move into Capricorn on November 26, never to return to Sagittarius ever again (well, not for a couple hundred years anyway, and by then, none of us will be around to notice.) In certain fundamental ways, life will become infinitely more practical; somehow, the interest rate on extraneous dreams will seem too high to pay. Seems a shame to me, but even this, too, shall pass. Fifteen years from now, we’ll all be waiting—with bated breath, even—for Pluto’s next move into Aquarius.

Otherwise, it should be a reasonably exciting, active month, an appropriate segue into the hectic holiday season. Go ahead and have Christmas early—give somebody a present, find some mistletoe to smooch under, something.

And remember: it’s a sin to muck up good scotch by putting eggnog in it.

november by sign

(Note from Laura: this has been an extremely hectic month for me, and so the usual format of the monthly 'scopes has been nixed for November. Find your sign below for some brief thoughts about this month's astrological happenings; I'll post updates over the coming weeks, too, lady's honor....)

Aries, Cancer, Libra

You guys will be dealing with unexpected changes in perspective—a bit of ruthlessness, even. This may happen inside you (“That’s it. I’m tired of being a frickin’ doormat. This is what I want and this is how I’m going to get it.”) This may happen to you (you may get the very clear sense of some deep behind-the-scenes manipulations going on.) Either way, the obstacles you run into won’t be cakewalks, by any stretch of the imagination.

For Aries (and especially Aries ascendants) it’s your status and career. Make sure you’re not clinging to your rose-colored glasses; if you have been up ‘til now, you’re due a bit of disillusionment. If the time comes to move on, move on. Resistance will only drag out the inevitable.

For Cancer, it’s relationships. The week of November 10, leading up the Full Moon on Thursday November 14, will be key. What do you receive, and then accept as a kind of love? What do words like “loyalty” and “dependence/co-dependence/interdependence” mean to you? Sex has something to do with this, doesn't it?

For Librans (and again, Libran ascendants in particular) this is a time of fundamental psychological change. Issues of childhood/parenthood, of what it means to be an independent adult with all the responsibilities that entails, of what it might mean to change inside, to grow the hell up...these are your themes this month. It will hurt. Pluto on the imum coeli is never, ever easy, and but you can handle it, I know it. Psychological courage is your key.

Taurus, Scorpio

To share or not to share? That is the question, for both of you. For some, it’s a matter of limelight—how much glory do you crave for your own, and how much are you willing to graciously give away? For some, it’s a matter of material resources, almost like squabbling over the last drumstick on the Thanksgiving plate-- one of those things that make sense while you’re doing it, but then leave you feeling like a bit of a jackass later. Hmm.

Your larger issues are more mental and philosophical, but trust in the small incidents this month to be very illuminating indeed. Watch your own reactions as objectively as you can, and go from there. Trust me: no matter what anyone else gets up to this month, it’s your own actions and thoughts that matter.

Gemini, Leo

You two get lumped uncharacteristically together because your issues are somewhat similar, and they fall under one broad category: Limitations. Something breaks this month for both Twins and Lions, and chances are, it’s something that’s been limiting you in ways you may not have imagined. For both of you, it has to do with other people.

Gemini is facing the limits of fuzzy thought processes, unsatisfactory life philosophies, and harsh, long-standing inhibitions. None of these are really yours. They’ve been magicked into your head by a long string of people who want you to believe just this way for their own benefit. Some Geminis are about to begin a period of hard-core sexual awakening; the lessons you learn about who you really are and what you really think in the next decade will center around sexuality. It’s a deep, tough, extremely vulnerable passage, but also a uniquely rewarding one. The week of the Full Moon, on November 14, is a small preview.

Leo is dealing with some of the same issues, but is reacting quite differently at the moment. You’re already in the throes of acting out your quirks, somewhat willy-nilly. Leo ascendants in particular have been trying on various partners, positions, and strategies—not all of them sexual, either—trying to make it all fit. But you’re meeting with seemingly immovable obstacles, some of them undoubtedly financial, and so the temptation is to assume that you’re doing it all wrong. You’re probably not. Keep trying, and the obstacles will take care of themselves eventually.

Virgo, Pisces

There’s really not much left to say to you poor things (check this article for the main highlights of the Saturn/Uranus opposition in your signs, making its first pass early this month) except...well, keep at it, and keep reaching for that sense of humor.

This is actually a dream-come-true month, for Pisces especially. But...but...your dreams-come-true will change you in ways you can’t anticipate. Your ruler Neptune moves forward this month, and then Uranus in your sign moves forward later; between the two, you’re in for some pretty unique experiences. Your dreams (the actual ones you have at night) will become important; they’ll dredge up things you might not want to look at, but really really need to see.

For Virgos, the same inner transformation is reaching a critical phase. Are you serving? Whom? Why? You’re about to get extremely self-interested when it comes to romance—there are things about yourself that you feel you must learn, and you’ll see your way clearly, through pleasure and self-gratification. It’ll be a struggle at first, but determination will eventually overcome reticence and hesitation.

Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius

You three signs rarely get lumped together, but for this month, I’d like to say this to all three of you: there are larger forces at work, and you’ll need to wear your transpersonal hats as much as possible. The so-called transpersonal signs (along with Pisces, you’re them) have the ability to look at people, behavior, and personal interaction and see humanity in the abstract, rather than mere personalities.

On the one hand, there are the day-to-day specifics of your friends and loved ones; these are the minor tragedies and triumphs that make up the subplots of our lives. On the other hand, there are the generic human themes, the stories, played out over and over again by you, by others, by whomever. These are the main plots—or the archetypes, if you like—and they don’t change; individuals (like Jack or Mary or cousin Humphrey) merely fill in the roles temporarily.

Both perspectives are important, of course, but this month, you’ll need to back away from the personal a bit, and see things from that transpersonal perspective you’re so capable of attaining. For all three of you, spiraling inward toward the intensely personal will be an exercise in self-imposed pressure. You don’t need it. Take the broader view.

This is triple-dog true for Capricorn and Capricorn ascendants. Pluto’s entry into your sign will place an immense amount of pressure on you, now and for years to come. December-born Capricorns are already feeling it. “Change!” it says (and this month it’s yelling.) Change is coming, that’s true, but taking all the pressure of Pluto, Saturn, and Uranus onto your own shoulders is counterproductive and, well, silly. Move your focus away from yourself, and toward the larger plot that you’re a part of.

Aquarius has been finding this move difficult lately. In November, putting yourself aside will get easier in many ways, but you’ll also have to fight some intense inner demons. Take a look at Libra above, because that theme is similar to yours. It’s very similar, in fact, although it’ll be more subconscious for you; memories, triggers, and old nasty patterns seem to pop out of nowhere. The good thing is, you’ll feel better this month, and that’s a great thing. Do stuff for other people. It helps.

pisces in may

What an interesting chart you have this month, Pisces. I can’t decide whether to warn you off, or breathe a sigh of relief.

To begin the month, your co-ruler Jupiter will turn retrograde in your house of friends, social activities, and group goals. It will join Pluto there, who went retrograde several weeks ago; with these two forces working erratically, you may run into a few unexpected hitches in group activities.

You’ll certainly see a slowdown in the action, which could offer you a much-needed break. It may feel like you’re out of the loop, too, but don’t worry. You’ll be back in demand soon enough.

Near the end of the month, your other co-ruler Neptune goes retrograde too. With both of these planets appearing to move away from us in the sky, you’ll definitely feel a few untoward effects. Usually, a planetary retrograde manifests as a loss of conscious control over that particular energy—it feels like things are out of your hands for a while.

Just to add to the theme, that retrograde Pluto is considered your esoteric ruler. Sheesh! Get ready for the Summer of Swimming Through Molasses!

Plus there’s a Mercury retrograde beginning on the 26th. And there’s an irritating little square between Uranus in your sign and said retro Mercury.

Until further notice (or mid-June, whichever comes first) you will be quite likely to say anything, to anyone, at any time, with no compunction or social grace whatsoever. Other signs are up for a little verbal blunt force trauma too-- particularly Aries, Gemini, and Virgo-- so you may be on the receiving end as well.

The final week of May could turn into one giant insult-fest.

Try to think before you speak. If that doesn’t work and it comes out anyway (“Yeah, I’ve always thought your cooking sucks, but have eaten it for ten years to make you happy!”) you can try begging and crying hysterically, professing your complete lack of sanity and infinite self-loathing, even falling into a dead faint at the very thought of what a wretched asshole you finally see yourself to be.

It’s the little things that mean so much.

Good Things: A repeat of last month’s full Moon is Scorpio. If you’re like many of the Fish I know, some very interesting happenings happened. Or almost happened. This month, you get to try again.

Sex Life: It might improve, if you have a committed partner. Otherwise, new flirtations will be fewer and further between.

Aquarius in May 2008

aquarius the waterbearer

21 january -- 18 february

aquarius in may

Last month, I wrote at length about Aquarians and their Neptune issue (click here if you want a recap.) Yes, it’s still around, and no, you’re still not crazy, no matter how weird your life gets.

I have more news, however; the Aquarian Neptune goes retrograde late this month. Depending on certain personal factors, this could bring either welcome relief, or an exacerbation of the problem.

Maybe both, in a weird Neptunian way. Unfortunately, it’s all too easy for the “both” option to include hitting the bottle, the bong, or the bedroom in a blatantly escapist fashion.

This retrograde Neptune is also dancing woozily over the North Node of the Moon, which hints at destiny in the making. Try to stay grounded, Aquarius, and don’t create any more tangled karmic threads than are necessary. If you make them now, you’ll be untangling them for years to come.

Saturn will be there this month to help. He goes direct in your house of shared resources, and certain sticky problems you’ve had since December will begin to resolve themselves. You have some work to do, that’s for sure, but it’s good for you on so many levels.

The quantity of drop-in-your-lap opportunities will subside, but there’s still good energy here if you keep your focus.

Don’t neglect the fun, creative things in your life either. They’ll keep you from falling off the Neptunian cliff, and besides, there’s so much good stuff going on! If you’re into any kind of creative work, this is a great month to just play around, with no real expectations or predetermined outcome in mind.

Mercury, Venus, and the Sun all move into your house of play, romance, children, and creativity. Your creations will be lively, spontaneous, and very rewarding—spend time with them, whatever they are. This goes for light, friendly romance, too. If you’re on the dating scene, keep it upbeat, casual, and cheerful—no psychodrama!

If time spent with that certain someone begins to feel more like a therapy session than a good time, walk away for now. You don’t have the mental grounding necessary to deal with something like that, and Neptune is lurking, waiting to pull you down into a rather murky inner backwater.

But only if you allow it to happen.

You have more control than you think.

Good Things: Your regular life should pick up and become a lot more lively. No more hiding out at home!

Sex Life: The broad themes of sex, love, and partnerships move into focus. How are the particulars playing out?

Capricorn in May 2008

capricorn the goat

22 december -- 20 january

capricorn in may

Hi Cap! How’s Jupiter been treating you lately?

I’m going to get a bit abstract this month, so go ahead and forgive me now. Looking at your solar chart, I’ve been watching an odd situation develop involving Jupiter and Saturn, a situation which will take a new turn in May.

They both do an about-face this month, Jupiter in your sign and Saturn in fellow earth sign Virgo. How is this odd, and how does it involve you?

For some signs, it’s no big deal. For Capricorn, it’s a source of uncomfortable tension. You see, Jupiter and Saturn are just about as opposite in nature as two planets can get, and they’ve been pulling you in opposite directions.

Jupiter expands, proliferates choices and options, widens the scope of possibilities, encourages us to throw caution to the wind and leap into the sheer abundance of unknown potential. No safety nets needed or desired! (Jupiter from Saturn’s point of view: no limits equals no results.)

Saturn contracts, limits choices and options, narrows our focus so that we can actually accomplish something, encourages us to direct our energy toward known paths of success. No risk needed or desired! (Saturn from Jupiter’s point of view: no freedom equals no growth.)

As a Capricorn, Saturn rules your chart (in other words, your life) and exerts his influence over you no matter where he is. Saturn has been retrograde since December of last year, and this influence has been muffled. Meanwhile, Jupiter has been goading you into exploring unfamiliar territory, and without your steady Saturn influence to keep you grounded, you may be out on a few very skinny-seeming limbs right now.

This all changes in May. Saturn will go direct again on the 2nd, and then Jupiter will go retrograde on the 9th. The tables will turn, abruptly.

Interesting, no?

Be aware of overreacting to a sharp inward surge of conservative energy. Even though Jupiter has put you out on those limbs, they may be limbs that are good for you in the long run. It’s his job to expand our horizons, just like it’s Saturn’s job to consolidate our efforts.

Both are necessary. It’s your job to find the happy medium.

Good Things: The pace of your daily life will increase...whether this is a good thing or not is up to you. You’ll be in demand at work, that’s for sure.

Sex Life: Mars will up your sex drive tenfold. Do something about it in the first two weeks of the month...you’ll certainly have the motivation!

Sagittarius in May 2008

sagittarius the centaur

23 november -- 21 december

sagittarius in may

Ah, the merry month of May, when birds sing, flowers bloom, and skirts rise...you are merry, aren’t you, Sagittarius? A tad jolly, maybe? Hanging in there, at least?

April was a good month for Sagittarius, all told, but some Centaurs have trouble with the month of May. Part of the discomfort you feel around this time of year is due to so many planets moving into your opposite sign of Gemini. You have some things in common with Gemini, but it is your opposing sign, after all—while everyone else is half-wild with spring fever, you tend to feel drained.

Gemini energy forces you to focus on a level of detail that you find irrelevant. Your broad, expansive outlook is cramped by Gemini’s Mercurial obsession with literal particulars and endless streams of data. By the end of May, you could find yourself highly annoyed on a fundamental level.

It’s normal for this time of year, if that helps at all. It’ll pass. You’ll be so busy that there won’t be time to worry about it anyway.

Saturn goes direct at the top of your chart early this month. I’ve seen this go one of two ways.

In the first scenario, all the obligations you’ve been putting off for months come crashing back, front and center. All those half-finished projects? All those promises of “Sure, I can do that, just give me call when you’re ready!”?

Guess what? They’re all ready, all at the same time.

In the second scenario, it’s the other way around. You’ve been trying for months to get ahead in some way, but nothing’s happened. All the doors have seemed reluctant to open, and while nobody’s actually slammed them in your face, they haven’t been in any hurry to usher you in.

Guess what? You’re ready, and will find yourself doing whatever it takes to squeeze on through.

Either way, it means career and public life energy is about to come unstuck. You’ve been working so hard, and now it’ll begin to show results.

The hard work isn’t over, though. Your ruler Jupiter turns retrograde (just like Saturn’s been) in the same public life zone. That means less great luck, more sweat equity. With Saturn backing you up and Mars becoming infinitely more friendly, you can pull it off.

There’s lots of activity in your close partnership house, too, but it’s likely to result in surface activity, rather than the long-term movement you have in your career house. Enjoy the extra romantic attention, deal with any misunderstandings that come up, but try to remain focused on the bigger issues of the moment.

By mid-June, you’ll feel much better about it all. By late fall, you’ll be well into your next era. Hang in there.

Good Things: The very beginning of the month could still hold some surprise windfalls at work—new assignments, unexpected accounts, unlooked-for kudos.

Sex Life: Prospects are good if you have a steady; otherwise, only so-so.

Scorpio in May 2008

scorpio the scorpion

24 october -- 22 november

scorpio in may

There are times when I’m deeply honored to have several Scorpionic people in my life, and times when I’m relieved to have a Scorpio-free closet to hide in.

This month will be one of the latter, maybe. Please try to be nice!

In May, you will be gifted with superhuman powers of insight, intensity, and subtle incisive force (more so than usual, even.) This would be blatant hyperbole for any other sign, but in your case I’m not exaggerating.

Mars, your co-ruler, crosses the very top of your chart in the determined, fiery sign of Leo. You will have assertiveness and aggression to spare; if you can channel this drive into productive activities, you’ll be unstoppable. If not, you’ll just be controlling.

Add to this Mercury, Venus, and the Sun crossing into your natural house, the solar eighth, which gives you extra insight and depth perception. Facades are like rice paper to you this month, and any selfish abuse of this enhanced talent could result in chaos in your relationships.

Now, not all Scorpios will require these cautionary words. Most of you wouldn’t dream of manipulating your fellow man in order to serve a few entirely self-centered desires. But be aware that the temptation will exist in May, so make an extra effort to examine your motivations.

Add to this a second full Moon in your sign on the 19th. Two full Moons in a row in your sign won’t happen again until 2027. It’s a very powerful time for you, to say the least.

Saturn turns direct in the area of friends, social groups, and colleagues. You’ll gain extra credibility as a driving force among your folks, and will take your responsibility to them very seriously.

This is a great thing—we all need strong leaders, and you’re highly appreciated—but don’t go overboard. Make the extra effort to respect other team members as equals, or May could see you labeled as the latest petty tyrant.

We only use our powers for good, remember?

Good Things: You’re still red-hot in almost anything you’re into. Use the first three weeks of this month to really push for what you want...as equably as possible, of course.

Sex Life: Chances are it’s still fantastic. If you’re still looking, those you meet near the beginning of this month may have keeper potential.

Libra in May 2008

libra the scales

23 september -- 23 october

libra in may

Remember the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray? The main character enters some sort of time loop and is forced to repeat the same day, over and over, until he gets it right.

May could have a Groundhog Day feel for many of us, but especially for you, Libra.

So many of the issues you’re dealing with right now have their roots in your past, your very foundations. With all the retrogradation going on, I get the sense that there’s something fundamental that you still haven’t settled.

Foundations are extremely difficult to change. Some of the signs have ongoing issues in daily habits, financial strategies, love life approaches—these aren’t easy to handle, but are easier than facing changes at your very roots, which is Libra’s task.

However, you have some fantastic support in May. Many of the fast personal planets move into the compatible sign of Gemini, giving daily life an easier flow. Mars will also move into Leo, which will renew your motivation and commitment, especially to social causes and group endeavors.

Do you remember what I told you last month about Saturn in your twelfth house? (If not, you can reread it here.) Saturn goes direct early this month, and this will bring a few hidden things to the fore.

It’s best to face them head-on. Having Saturn turn direct here can be awkward (not to mention painful) but also presents the perfect opportunity to make progress on some of those old issues hiding in your broom cupboard.

Believe it or not, this is really a supportive influence for you right now. Do your best to take advantage of it.

Good Things: You’ll have another chance to get the money and/or values thing right, near the full Moon of the 19th. If you blew the big discussion last time, try again.

Sex Life: Watch out. There’s more going on than meets the eye, especially in situations that you consider to be light, fun romances. You may get more than you bargained for.

Virgo in May 2008

virgo the virgin

24 august -- 22 september

virgo in may

Okay, so I’m in the middle of drafting horoscopes and I get hungry. There’s bread, a tub of some sort of hydrogenated butter-like substance, and American cheese slices....grilled cheese it is. I go through the ritual—butter the bread, get out the skillet, turn on the fire, commence grilling—all the while contemplating Virgo’s upcoming astrological month.

I sit back down to type, take a bite of this little piece of perfectly browned comfort-food heaven, and discover that I’ve left the plastic wrapper on the cheese.

Hmm. Just like Virgo’s May, I’m thinking.

In real life, Virgo would never leave out a little detail like removing the wrapper from the Kraft singles. May is not exactly real life, though.

Oh, it’ll start out okay enough. You have so many great planets crossing the top of your chart, it’s guaranteed that you’ll shine like the star you are for the first couple of weeks. You have some incredible support behind you, too, with strong planets in good aspect, all in sister earth signs.

If you have anything important to do, like meeting a work deadline or presenting a plea to the United Nations, do it in the first two weeks. Starting with the full Moon on the 19th, it all goes wonky.

Mercury, your accepted chart ruler, goes retrograde in Gemini, right at the top of your chart. Chiron, your proposed chart co-ruler, goes retrograde in your house of daily details. Neptune, in conjunction with the North Node, also goes retrograde here, in your daily house.

This is not to mention Mars moving up behind you into Leo, in your twelfth house of unconscious motivations, slips of the tongue, and inexplicable behavior.

I don’t believe that the planetary haywire will result in anything more serious than a few erroneous grilled cheese sandwiches, metaphorically speaking-- not if you pay extra attention and keep yourself focused.

Keeping yourself focused may be a task, though. Extra exercise helps, as does plenty of time spent working with your hands. You need to move into the security and reliability of your body, and out of the unfamiliar muddle that will be your brain.

It’ll pass, most of it by July. Meantime, double-check the details, and try to laugh off the near-misses. A little plastic wrap never killed anybody.

Good Things: Admiration and notice comes rolling in for any recent career moves. All eyes are on you, so keep up the great work!

Sex Life: Issues from the past. Issues from the past. Issues from the past.

Leo in May 2008

leo the lion

23 july -- 23 august

leo in may

Busy, busy, busy...that pretty much describes Leo’s May in a nutshell.

I’m surprised you have time to read this horoscope, really, since the action started in April and hasn’t let up. In fact, you’ve probably added at least two or three new projects, responsibilities, and/or group activities to your calendar already.

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. While this may seem unimaginable, the requests and invitations will now begin in earnest. Having difficulty believing you could be any more in demand than you already are?

Believe it. You’ve proven yourself to be the one to watch, and everybody wants you on their side. But be aware: Mars moves into your sign early this month, and you’ll feel like you can conquer the world. You can, to a limited extent, but Mars will move on eventually, and you could end up stuck with more responsibility than you can truly handle.

Be selective when saying “Yes.” Ask yourself, “Is this really me?” and listen for the answer before agreeing to any more commitments. This advice holds for social life, public life, and personal life alike.

More news: Saturn goes direct in your money house this month! This is a good thing, trust me, although the first week or two could see you paying the piper, so to speak. All the debt you’ve racked up will need to be handled, but more money will be available, too, so don’t fret. Saturn’s been retrograde here for quite a while, and he’s put your cash flow in the deep freeze. When the thaw begins, it’ll move both ways.

Last month we spoke of the effects of Neptune in your 7th house. Well, Neptune goes retrograde there in May, as does the planetoid Chiron. “Weirdness in relationships” is all I’ll predict.

It could be good weirdness (i.e., that old unrequited love suddenly gets requited, very thoroughly, every night for a month.) It could be bad weirdness (i.e., you find out that your partner has been living a double life for years and is a complete lying bastard.) It could be just plain weird (your girlfriend’s grandmother confesses her undying lust for you and your German shepherd, and insists that you all move in together immediately.)

Whatever happens, don’t get attached to the outcome. I mean it. No matter if it’s a dream come true or a nightmare come to life, it’s not necessarily what it seems. Take it from an old hat at Neptune issues...these things have a way of morphing. It’ll be different by October.

Otherwise, enjoy the attention and enjoy the burst of energy Mars sends your way—you’ve earned it!

Good Things: The Big Thaw in your money house is the best news I can give you. You’re welcome.

Sex Life: And why not? Just give the dog a bath first.

Cancer in May 2008

cancer the crab

22 june -- 22 july

cancer in may

Mars is finally leaving your sign!

Yes, it’s a very exciting thing, and not just for Crabs. We’re all breathing a sigh of relief; Mars has not been at all comfortable in Cancer, nor has Cancer been comfortable hosting him. On the 9th, he moves into Leo, a fire sign that will be more than happy to accommodate his impulsive, assertive nature.

The drama queens are waiting, stage left. Let them take over now.

Cancerians can relax. The nervous tension, irritability, and uncharacteristic aggression will ease. Of course, having Mars in your sign hasn’t been all bad. Hopefully you’ve used his energy to set some new boundaries for yourself, and to pursue a few goals or wishes you’d normally never dare to shoot for. But it has been exhausting, and now it’s over.

His move into your second house of money, possessions, and values will see an upswing in these areas. It’s about time, too.

In fact, you may just decide that now is the time to recuperate from all the attention and stress. Several important planets move into your twelfth house this month; you may just feel like hanging out at home, doing some spring cleaning. It’s a good plan, but don’t neglect your money-making projects.

Your relationship life is also set to slow down this month. The constant stream of new faces, some of which have become demanding over the past few weeks, will slow to a trickle. Jupiter has been tossing partner potential at you for months, and he goes retrograde near the end of the month.

More than likely, you’ll need to deal with some existing relationship issues. Look to the last week of the month to highlight which ones, if you don’t already know. The repeat of the full Moon in Scorpio will affect you strongly again, and you’ll probably cover come of the same romantic ground you covered last month—only this time, you’ll be less defensive.

Take it easy this month, Crabs. You’ve earned the right.

Good Things: Mercury’s retrograde at the end of the month should pass lightly over you. Compared to some of the other signs, you’re off the hook.

Sex Life: There are still some surprises waiting here. If you regret missing a chance last month, it’ll come back around in late May.

Gemini in May 2008

22 may -- 22 june

gemini in may

Hi Gemini! In April, I promised you a great month of May, and you should get it, too... with a few caveats.

You knew there’d be caveats, didn’t you?

First of all, your ruling planet Mercury moves into Gemini early in the month. You’ll do what you do best—talk, listen, think, move information from here to there, charm the dickens out of just about anyone—even better.

You’re in fine Gemini form, and that’s a compliment. Enjoy yourself.

Use it to the fullest before the week of the 26th. Mercury goes retrograde in your sign on that day, and you know what that means. You won’t have your usual glib control over the information in your sphere, nor will your mental processes work quite as smoothly. Computer glitches can occur, as can scheduling problems.

To make it worse, toss in a lingering square from said Mercury to Uranus in Pisces. Mercury will reach the degree of the square, hover, then pirouette over this same irritating point for nearly three weeks.

The forecast includes heavy sarcasm, extreme bluntness, and abundant sharp retorts. This influence also indicates nervous mental tension and anxiety; do whatever you need to do to stay calm. Startling, unpredictable news could reach you, too, about what I don’t know-- if it were predictable, it wouldn’t be Mercury-Uranus, now would it?

The effect lasts from mid-month well into June. These squares usually pass quickly, but this one is prolonged due to the retrograde; try to keep it in mind when the unexpected news drops into your lap.

And now: Venus and the Sun to the rescue! Both of these happy planets move into your sign in the last week of May. Venus in your sign lends you an aura of sex appeal and social charm, while the Sun boosts your vitality. Early Gemini birthdays get the benefit first. June-borns will certainly feel the effects, but won’t get the full helping until next month.

All in all, that great month I promised you looks ready to roll. Just keep repeating the mantra: “It’s only my Mercury squared with Uranus.”

Don’t repeat it in mixed company, though.

Good Things: Mars moves out of Cancer. Mars hates Cancer, and you’ll be much happier with him in Leo. You’re able to say what’s on your mind without worrying so much about other people’s feelings...a good thing, but do watch for pent-up verbal aggression.

Sex Life: By the end of the month and into June, they’re eating out of the palm of your hand. You’re feeling more direct and confident, which will improve your love life all around.

Taurus in May 2008

taurus the bull

21 april -- 21 may

taurus in may

For the first half of May, Taurus is still sitting pretty. Many of you have birthdays yet to come, and Venus is still upping your attraction factor for much of the month.

Are you enjoying the attention? I hope so. If, despite all the brilliant planetary energy, things have still been slow in the fun and romance department, blame Saturn. He’s been retrograde in your fun zone for ages, and will finally turn direct early this month.

Saturn is the planet of restriction and limitation, and he’s one bitch of a wet blanket. You can look at him like a cosmic chaperone: it’s nearly impossible to enjoy yourself when he’s around.

He’ll still be there in your fifth house for several years, unfortunately, but at least he’ll move forward this month. That’s something.

When a planet is retrograde, its energies are still there, but we have little control over them. In this case, it’s felt like outside forces were interfering with your romantic and creative schemes, leaving you little room to maneuver. When Saturn goes direct, you’ll still have to deal with restrictions, but at least you have more control over how you navigate them.

The best strategy for dealing with Saturn is to set your own limits, and then follow them. If you set feasible rules for yourself, then Saturn won’t have to. “See, Mister Chaperone, I can be totally responsible and still have fun too! Now, quit hovering!”

On another note, how did the Scorpio full Moon of last month affect you? (It was exact on the 20th of April.) If you are a very early-born Taurus, you may have had some “interesting” experiences. This month, we get a repeat, except this time around it’ll be late-born Taureans that get the brunt.

It’s a powerful full Moon, falling in the area of your chart that rules partners, spouses, and deep relationships. Full Moon energy especially affects women, persons with strong Moon or Cancer influences in their charts, and those on any kind of hormone therapy. Usually, we only have to deal with one Scorpio full Moon, but this time we get two in a row.

That’s a lot of intensity, folks, so do what you need to do to stay balanced.

Good Things: It’s a great time to beautify your surroundings, especially your home. Your improvements will translate into added value. Be careful with any contract labor, though, after Mercury goes retro on the 27th.

Sex Life: Should begin to improve, slowly but surely.

Aries in May 2008

aries the ram

21 march -- 20 april

aries in may

After last month’s busy sky, many Arians are gasping for breath. New career opportunities have been pouring in, and at times you’ve felt like you were unable to keep up with the influx. It’s all great, but perhaps a tad overwhelming.

May will bring a slowdown. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

Most of the activity has been triggered by Jupiter and Pluto, the heavy-hitters who are sitting at the most prominent part of your chart. Jupiter brings good luck; sometimes, though, he uses the shotgun approach to doling out opportunity. It’s easy to take on too much when Jupiter’s involved, and it’s also easy to say “yes” to things you’ll later regret.

On the 10th, Jupiter will go retrograde. The first week of the month may see an increase in public life activities, but then should ease off. Your phone will quit ringing twenty-four hours a day, and you’ll actually be able to catch up on all those projects you’ve taken on, the great and the not-so-great.

Saturn will help. He’s doing the opposite number, going to direct motion in your work and daily life sector. The second half of May will have a workhorse feel, but after all these months of feeling Saturn’s “never enough time” pinch, you’ll probably enjoy the chance to actually get things done.

One word of warning: Mercury’s retrograde may affect Aries this time around. It begins in the last week of the month, and will hit Aries as hard as anybody. It’s in Gemini, the sign which rules your communication and mental zone; since Mercury naturally rules these things anyway, be prepared for communication lapses, computer glitches, forgetfulness, and scheduling mishaps.

It could get pretty absurd, truth be told. Mercury’s also involved in a lingering square to Uranus in Pisces, hiding in your twelfth house. Freudian slips, anyone?

Mercury will continue retrograde until June 19th. Write it all down. Even if you still miss a few connections or, better yet, say a few really embarrassing things at inopportune moments, at least you’ll have something funny to read later.

Good Things: Mars moves out of that damned sloggy Cancer and into compatible Leo. Your house of fun, romance, creativity, and play will light up like a light bulb...have fun!

Sex Life: The above-mentioned Mars will highlight playful flirtations, new connections, and just plain old dating fun. A fling would be great right about now, wouldn’t it?

Pisces in August 2008

pisces, the fishes

19 february -- 20 march

pisces in august

Twists, turns, complete surprises, unpredictable acts committed by normally predictable people—in other words, are you ready for another month of Uranian action?

In August, pretty much everything but the kitchen sink will zip through Virgo, your opposing sign. Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Sun, and the asteroid Eros all take turns lining up opposite you in the sky. This is not to mention Saturn, who’s been in Virgo and will stay there until fall of 2009.

Add to this the fact that Uranus, Planet of the Totally Unexpected, is hovering at about 22 degrees of Pisces. All those planets in Virgo will oppose Uranus, too, thus paving the way for the big Saturn/Uranus face-off that officially begins in September and lasts practically all the way through 2009.

And add to this a pair of August eclipses, one focal end of which lies in your solar twelfth house (read more about them here.) To Pisces, the sign of Aquarius represents mysteries, the subconscious, and the unrecognized Shadow-self.

Most Fish should slide by the eclipses without seeing much overt action. Eclipses often signal endings and new beginnings, but since this one occurs a.) in your cadent houses and is a bit less powerful, and b.) in conjunction with Neptune and Chiron in your twelfth, you may not even notice that a new cycle has begun, not until later in fall.

However, where you and other people are concerned, August will be jumping. Watch your interpersonal relationships closely; be aware that you may find yourself inadvertently playing the role of The Rebel or the Lone-Wolf Martyr or some equally tired cliche. If these archetypes are part of who you are, fine (they’re in everyone, really) but this particular opposition will tend to bring out the reactionary in all of us.

One side will be playing the role of Immovable-Authority-Who-Knows-What’s-Good-For-You. This side will come across as the cold, critical squelchers of dreams and individuality, the ones who couldn’t see the need for change if it rolled over and bit them.

The other side of this drama will be playing the Do-It My-Way-And-Damn-Your-Authority role. This side will come across as the irresponsible, impractical defenders of random dreams, the ones who never actually reach any of their pie-in-the-sky goals because they have no sense of compromise, nor of steady, practical effort.

Guess what? You’re more complex than either of these two cardboard stock characters suggests. No matter which role you find yourself playing (and it may alternate wildly over the next year) try to keep in mind that you are more than either of these. You're intelligent and empathetic enough to see the merit in both sides of this stand-off-- you can mediate between them, if you really try.

Pisces and Virgo are actually set to benefit greatly from this opposition...eventually. First we have to get through the rough patches; it helps if we remember that “the other guy” is going through something just as trumped up and weird as we are, no matter how opposed his views are to ours.

Keep you eyes, ears, and mind open. It’ll be an interesting month, no doubt.

Good Things: All this Virgo action will also trigger Jupiter in your house of social organizations, friends, and aspirations. Opportunities may plop into your lap unexpectedly, especially if they involve old friends, past partners, or groups you’ve been part of in the past.

Sex Life: Seriously, Pisces...how can you expect to squeeze romance into a schedule like yours? You may not have a choice. Sex, especially sex connected to love, will become increasingly important over the next couple of months. It may also require some debate (take a look at Virgo’s scope for a peek at the other side.)

Aquarius in August 2008

aquarius, the waterbearer

21 january -- 18 february

aquarius in august

Many Aquarians are having a tough time at the moment (and if that's a serious understatement, I apologize.)

From where I sit, the astrological factors seem to be challenging Aquarius more than any other sign. This didn’t begin in August—you’ve been butting heads with Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn for several years—but August may bring another round of challenges to face.

The good news is that this certainly won’t last forever. One of the most irritating things is that your usually brilliant luck seems to have vanished into thin air. Jupiter is hiding out in Capricorn, in your so-called hidden house, and won’t enter your sign for five more months.

When Jupiter does cross into Aquarius in January of ‘09, though, your fortunes should pick up noticeably. In some ways, August’s events may contain the seeds of January’s opportunities. Saturn (in your house of other people’s money) makes a nice trine to Jupiter, and while you may not recognize the immediate benefits this month, you must be scrupulous in your dealings with other people.

Saturn in Virgo is one tough taskmaster; he demands scrupulous integrity, immaculate planning, and close attention to detailed accountability. To the extent that you can pull these off in August, you’ll gain the support of some powerful, if currently hidden, allies. These are Jupiter in Capricorn allies, too, and they couldn’t care less about sentiment; the only thing they’ll reward is a solid bottom line and a step-by-step strategy.

If they can't count on you, they'll simply disappear. And take their resources with them.

Somehow, you’ve wandered into the room where the Big Boys are playing. If you want to stay, you’ll have to play by their rules. The stakes will be raised again in November, too, when Pluto also moves into tough-minded Capricorn.

All this career, money, and outer-world trauma has certainly affected your personal life, as well as your sense of self. This month’s pair of eclipses (read more about them here) could represent the cumulative effect of much of your recent struggle.

What is passing out of your life? How do you let it go? Is there anything worth salvaging, or is it better to begin again, with a totally clean slate?

If the answers to these and other related questions aren’t yet clear, August should provide you with a few hints. Eclipses are also a time of powerful new beginnings.

What will you do with yours?

Good Things: Despite the heavy tone of your main scope, there’s also a great chance for totally unexpected help, support, and out-of-the-blue offers. These may come from mysterious sources, but if they occur during after the first week, they’re probably sincere.

Sex Life: Oh, Aqua, so much of this could be playing out in your sex life! “Shared resources” includes sexual sharing, and Saturn has his critical eye on that, too. Prepare for some real surprises this month; do you know what your real desires and responsibilities are?
